Form IV (also called Ataru)
History
Created in the early days of the Old Republic,
Form IV is by far the most acrobatic form ever created. Based on the principle that a moving target is easier to hit,
this form encourages the user to move as much as possible, if for no other reason than that it is a good defense. A
practicioner allows the Living Force to flow through him, guiding his every move. Undoubtedly this is the form
that depends the most on the Force to guide and help the user. Although it can be adapted to the offensive, Form IV
is primarily a defensive form, and is most effective against other lightsaber users. The main techniques of this form
include:
-
acrobatic moves including jumps, runs, spins, flips,
dodges
-
wide, effortlessly flowing swings with the lightsaber
-
becoming very proficient at using the Living Force
to do almost anything
Practicioners of this form
Council Member Senior Jedi Master Yoda
Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn
The Bottom Line
A very effective form, if the person using it knows
for sure what he or she is supposed to be doing when they are supposed to be doing it. Does not seem to be a very effective
offensive form, but it was never designed to be that way either. Not made for use against blasters, so not
as effective against them as some forms.
